The "Cat Throwing a Brick" is a 2022 popular meme in which a cat throws a brick towards the viewers direction. It was popularized by Twitter, which later produced different variations over the internet.
History[]
The original animation[1] was published on Newgrounds on Dec 2, 2022 at 1:28 AM (UTC) by the account mega-KOT. Under the name "think fast", this animation shows a Pokémon Umbreon throwing a brick at the viewer's screen. Then someone edited the gif to involve a cat throwing the brick.
Web usage[]
On February 2023, the meme had begin to revive interest following several edits[2] using music & sound effects from the 2020 video game Ultrakill. On Febuary 18, a YouTuber uploaded an edit of it and has gained more than 6,000 views in the past ten days since upload. On February 21, a YouTuber known as "Slicey Boi"[3] posted a similar edit of the meme.
On February 21, a Twitter user @wagintrowl1 edited the original gif to parody the popular rhythm game Rhythm Heaven Fever, using one of the songs,[4] from the game, gaining up to 12.1K likes and 4,033 retweets.
