The Giant Enemy Crab meme originated in 2006, at a Sony press conference. The conference was a disaster, and spawned several memes. Notable ones included Ridge Racer, $599, and Giant Enemy Crab. In the conference, Bill Ritch (the producer of Gengi 2) claimed that the game's battles actually took place in ancient Japan, and then proceeded to demonstrate a fight against a boss, which he called a "Giant Enemy Crab". He noted that you should attack it's weak point for massive damage, acting like that was a new idea for video games. The clip was put on the internet and gained popularity.
