Obey the Walrus

Obey The Walrus is a video that surfaced on YouTube around late 2007. The video features Andross from

Star Fox at the beginning of the video, singing the Itsy Bitsy Spider song in Spanish, then trippy effects show up on the screen for a few seconds, then abruptly cuts to a scene from a late 90's documentary, The Goddess Bunny, featuring Johnnie Baima dancing with an umbrella on screen while the audio of the Itsy Bitsy Spider song gets distorted and loud. When the song was finished at the last few seconds of the video, the dancer puts his whole face on the screen, staring at the viewer, before cutting to a picture of a walrus.

Origin

The video was first uploaded on October 5, 2007 by a YouTube user named, "OBEYDAWALRUS". (You can no longer see the profile because it got closed around late 2009 or 2010). The video later then got a gain of 124,558 views, as of October 17's archive, and got another gain of over 3,000,000 views as of March 8, 2008's archive.

The Curse

Without knowing the origin of the rumored curse, a 2011 Yahoo! Answers question by Mike, gives out a fabricated background story of the video:

  • "Obey The Walrus, known in Spanish as "Obedece a la Morsa", is a video that was allegedly created by a Latin American cult known as "La Morsa" (The Walrus) and it is said that "bad things" happen after watching the video.."

He then later added that, "the woman featured in the video is actually old footage of an American Trans person born as Johnnie Baima who later obtained the stage name of Sandie Crisp, he is more popularly known by the nickname 'Goddess Bunny'.The Goddess Bunny obtained their 'figure' when they contracted polio as a child. The Goddess Bunny has nothing to do with the cult of La Morsa, it is simply archived footage of them that has been edited and spread on the internet along with the stories of it being haunted for the sole purpose of scaring you. As a child, it appears that Johnnie bounced from foster home to foster home where they experienced some kind of abuse. Additionally, their posture and growth was restricted due to an ill-fated attempt by doctors to strengthen their spine with a steel rod. Some people find the video scary/creepy others find it sad honestly people are just putting too much into it".
