On September 29th, 2019, Facebook page WikiHow Image Macros, a Facebook group devoted to posting parody WikiHow images, posted the "Please Do Not The Cat" image, gaining over 4,000 likes and reactions and 7,100 shares in slightly less than a year.
Spread[]
The image was quickly spread to other communities online. On September 30th, 2019, it appeared on /r/ontheledgeandshit and /r/ihadastroke, the latter of which was deleted after gaining over 3,000 points. On December 8th, it was reposted to /r/comedyheaven, gaining over 240 points.
Parodies[]
Parodies of the image began growing popular during the summer of 2020. For example, on August 13th, user Conclave of Hypixel.net posted a parody in a forum post. On August 23rd, Twitter account @reactjpg posted a The World If parody of the image
