Reddit is an American social news aggregation, content rating, and forum social network. Registered users, commonly referred to as Redditors, submit content to the site such as links, text posts, images, and videos, which are then voted up or down ("upvoted" or "downvoted") by other members through its karma system. Reddit is well-known for starting a lot of memes like the Big Chungus and I Lied meme and popularizing many others. It has called out 4chan various times.

Redditors

Redditors is a term to describe the users of Reddit. Throughout its website, some have described to be considered toxic, some are nice, and some in the middle, loads of types and more. Redditors are one of the biggest cult in 2020 and has been seen in many shapes. They represent the demographic of Reddit.

History

The first development of Reddit started with college roommates Steve Huffman and Alexis Ohanian in 2005. Huffman and Ohanian attended a lecture by programmer-entrepreneur Paul Graham in Boston, Massachusetts, during their spring break from University of Virginia. After speaking with Huffman and Ohanian following the lecture, Graham invited the two to apply to his startup incubator Y Combinator. Their first idea, My Mobile Menu, was not successful, and was intended to allow users to order food by SMS text messaging. During a brainstorming session to pitch another startup, the idea was created for what Graham called the "front page of the Internet". For this thought, Huffman and Ohanian were accepted in Y Combinator's first class. With the funding from Y Combinator, Huffman coded the site in Common Lisp and together with Ohanian launched Reddit in June 2005.
